BDO Gold Cup - Lakeside 9th July 2011
Ross’s Gold Cup started with a tough game v Mark Elliot of Hertfordshire, with Ross
winning the deciding 5th Leg.Round 2 saw a 3-0 victory v Aaron Stevens of Oxfordshire.
Round 3 was  a 3-1 Victory v Jonny Clayton of Pembrokeshire taking Ross into the
quarter finals v Clevelands Glen Durrant in which Ross  ran out the 3-1 victor against the
man who finished top of this seasons BICC averages. This set up a stage Semi Final
against John Walton over the best of 3 sets. A closely fought game saw Ross winning the
encounter in the 3rd Set.
A short break was had before we Saw Ross take on Dorsets Paul Carter over the best of
5 sets.
This turned out to be a great game for fans and supporters of both players and went all
the way down to the final leg of the final set with everything tied. Ross’s 6th 180 of the
battle proved to be what would turn the match into a victory for Ross and saw him
crowned as 2011 Gold Cup Champion.
The Averages for the Final were Ross: 30.63 and Paul: 31.10

A Gold Cup Rarity
This year saw something very rare for the Gold Cup with Ross Montgomery,
Craig Baxter, Stewart Rattray and Ewan Hyslop all qualifying from their
respective counties..What’s so Rare? All four players formed Scotlands 2011
World Cup Squad. All four can be pictured below
Next up was a Hours break for Ross, whilst awaiting the
Stage Semi Finals to commence. Here Ross played an in form Paul Jennings
(County Durham) and came out with a 2 - 0 sets Victory, taking him into the Final
against Welsh favourite Martin Phillips. Another very close encounter in the Final,
with Ross making the better of missed doubles and Taking this Years Welsh Open
Title with a 2 - 1 Sets Victory. Next up for Ross is the British International Open at
Brean Sands.
Welsh Open 2011-Prestatyn
Ross started the Summers run of Uk based events well,
by progressing through his group, only dropping the 1
leg. In the Last 32 Ross defeated Scott Hudson
(Merseyside) 4-1, and went onto play Welsh
International Wayne Warren in the Last 16. This turned
out to be an eventful game, with Wayne having plenty
of local support. A very close game, with Wayne missing
 a 9 dart leg on double 18, but with Ross coming out on
the right side of a 4-2 Scoreline.
The Quarter Final saw Ross take on Andy Boulton and
another close game with Ross again coming out on top
4-2.
EDO England Masters 2011 - Norbreck Castle Hotel, Blackpool.
The Norbreck Castle proved to be a fantastic setting for the latest ranking
tournament, The EDO England Masters.
Ross carried on his superb form from Lakeside last week and progressed through the
first two rounds with 3-1 victories over Lee Russell and Robert Lauder. Round 3 would
see Ross’s debut on the EDO TV lane and web streamed to the world. This was to
be against Stephen Bunting and what a game it proved to be with Ross coming out the
3-0 winner with a 33.6 Average. Round 4 would see Ross play Clive Barden, another
tough game against a highly ranked player, saw Ross again progress with a 3-0 Victory.
Round 5 (last 8) was back in the Tv lane and against Peter Jaques and another 3-1
victory. Ross now had a short break before the Stage Semi Finals got under way.
Ross played in the First Stage Semi Final against Darryl Fitton in a Best of 7 legs match.
This proved to be a classic match, with the game poised at 3-2 and Darryl sitting on 41,
Ross was looking at 161 to take the match. In went the 60, as did the 51, before a short
pause and Bull.A 161 outshot to progress through to another final against John Walton.
Ross’s Average for the Semi was 31.27 v Darryls 30.66.
The Final was to be the best of 9 legs and again a good game was instore for the
watching crowd both in the venue and across the Web.
In the Final, Ross encountered a very in form John “Boy” Walton. John started well and
took an early 2-0 lead before Ross pulled back to 2-1. Missed chances mean’t that John
Walton took a 3-1 lead. A 76 shot out in the 5th Leg got Ross to 3-2, Ross then Levelled
at 3-3. The next leg saw John Walton miss an opportunity of a 9 dart finish and went
into a 4-3 lead with a 10dart legs.The next leg saw Ross miss a chance on 61 to let
John Walton in on 43 to finish the match.

In the Last 32, Ross took on “The Magician” in Norways, Robert Wagner and again
came out on top with a 4-0 Victory. The Last 16, saw Ross take on Belgiums,
Kurt Van de Rijck and again Ross came out the winner with a 4-2 scoreline.
Into the Quarter Finals and the Format was now Best of 9 Legs 501. Here Ross’s
opponent was another from Belgium, Johnny Petermans. Here Ross only dropped the
1 leg to take himself into the Semi Final with a 5-1 Victory.
The Semi Final was to be against the 2011 LAkeside Finalist, Dean Winstanley and
was to be played over the Best of 3 Sets (Best of 5 Legs per Set). Ross took the First
set without reply from Dean. In the Second Set Dean fought back in a close set, to take
it 3-2, taking the Match into the Final Set. Ross then took the 3rd Set to take the match
and progress to this years Final.
The Final was against The Netherlands, Ron Meulenkamp who has steadily progressed
up the Invitational Rankings this season. The Format was again changed and now was
the Best of 5 Sets. Ross won the First Set in the deciding 5th Leg, Then won the
Second Set 3-1 and went on to Win the Match and this Years Title in the 3rd set again
winning in the deciding 5th Leg.
This now takes Ross up to 5th in the BDO Invitational Table with only a few Left to be
Won.
Next Up for Ross will be The Winmau World Masters,In Hull on the weekend of the
2nd-4th Sept.

Belgium Open 2011
This years Belgium Open, proved again to be Successful for Ross.
Ross started this years Campaign with a 4-0 Victory over Marc de Kessel from
the Netherlands. In Round 2, Ross had a close game v Netherlands Youngster
Rico Dera and came out best in this 7 leg match, 4-3. In Round 3 (Last 128) Ross
defeated Rudi Maintz 4-0. In the Last 64, Ross again was victorious 4-2 v’s
Dirk van Duijvenbode of the Netherlands, taking Ross into the all important Points and
the Last 32.
Winmau World Masters 2011 - Hull Ross went into the World Masters this year as the 6th Seed and therefore  went straight into the Stage section of the Tournament in the last 16. First up for Ross was a stint in the Commentary box for ESPN with David Croft,  aiding the commentary of the last 32 matches, also screened live. The Saturday saw Ross play his first match against the Welsh Open Finalist, Martin Phillips. A very close game, which went to the very last leg with Ross winning the Bull and going onto win the Match. The Quarter final game put Ross up against Stephen Bunting, who struggled to find the  form that we know he has. Ross went onto win the Match 3 Sets to Nil. The Semi Finals would be played shortly afterwards with Ross up against Lakeside Finalist Dean Winstanley. Again this match never got going, with flashes of what both players are capable of. Nip and tuck and missed doubles from Dean, saw the match reach the Final leg..with nearest the bull to decide who would throw first. Dean won the Bull, and both players started the Leg well..as the final stages drew close ..Ross had an attempt at 121 to win the match, narrowly missing, giving Dean a chance  at 66. 10, 16 and Tops saw Dean progress into the Final. Wins against Stefan Werner of Germany (3-0) and Pete Taylor of Surrey again 3-0 moved Ross into the Last 128 where he played Steve Alker of Montgomery and Radnor losing out 3-2 in the Best of 5 leg Match and  also just missing out on Points for Lakeside. WDF World Cup 2011- Castlebar, Republic of Ireland
The Team event started today, Weds 21st, with the Scotland Men in
a group with South Africa,Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and Norway.
Scotland Started well with a 9-4 win over Trinidad and Tobago, before
a surprise 9-7 Defeat to South Africa. In the Third match v Norway, Scotland won 9-8
with a Bull from Ross to take the Match. Remember these are best of 1 leg games.
South Africa beat Norway 9-8 to take Scotland into the Last 16 where they will face
England.
The Mens Singles saw Ross progress to Round 2 where he met Martin Adams..Martin
beat Ross 4-0 to progress.
In the Mens Pairs, Ross and Ewan Hyslop progressed well and made it through their
group and into the Semi finals before being beaten by Swedens, Engström and Larsson.
Scotland Won a Bronze Medal for this and Finished 7th Overall in the World Cup.
EDO England Classic 2011 - Selsey The Saturday certainly turned into a day of two halves for Ross, after a 3-0 victory in the opening Round against up and coming Youth player Jack Tweddell. Ross encountered Tim Hope of Hampshire who won the game 3-1 after a few missed opportunities from Ross. The Afternoons Pairs Competition soon found Ross, partnered with Steve Douglas, back to winning ways as the pair steadily progressed through their group before taking on Peter Mitchell/Steve Sidders in the Semi and taking a very close game by 3-2 and moving into Sundays Stage Finals and Live over the Internet. In this Final Steve and Ross were to take on Dean Winstanley and Clive Barden. A match which certainly took on the Tortoise and the Hare Scenario, with Dean and Clive racing into a 2-0 Lead after a very slow start from Ross and Steve. Ross and Steve then managed to take the next two legs to level the Match and take it into a sudden death 5th leg.Both Scored well, but again it was down to who would hit the double, both Dean and Clive missing chances before the winning double went in for Ross and Steve and  another Pairs title to add to this years growing collection for Ross. Ross kicked off the 2011/12 Lakeside Qualification campaign by reaching the Last 32 of The Tops of Ghent. On his way he defeated Paul Walker (Eng) 4-0, Jean Pierre Strubbe (Bel) 4-0, Ronny Huybechts (Bel) 4-2 before being beaten 4-0 by Christian Kist of the Netherlands. In the Mens Pairs Ross again teamed up with Jimmy Hendriks and progressed into the Last 8 before being beaten by Steve Douglas and Clive Barden by 4-3. Tops of Ghent - 2011 Northern Ireland Open 2011 Ross made it into the Last 32 to Northern Irelands Clive Hanna, picking up some more  valuable points in the Race for 2013 Lakeside Qualification. In the Pairs Event Ross played with Robbie “Kong” Green and progressed to the final to take another pairs title. CentreParcs Masters 2011 Ross had a great run of games at this years CentreParcs, remarkably not losing a single leg until the game in which he was beaten. Ross started well with a 4-0 Victory against Fabian Overgag (Netherlands) in last 512,  Then another 4-0 v Davy Meuldermans (Bel) in last 256, Dirk Voet (Bel) in the last 128, Dirk Beni (Bel) in last 64. So into the Points Ross progressed and faced Jeffrey Stigter in the last 32 which again he won 4-0. Ross then played Ron Meulenkamp of the  Netherlands and again won 4-0. Ross progressed into the Quarter Finals against Dorsets Scotty “Dog” Mitchell in what would be only their 3rd meeting after Ross winning the previous encounters at the Scottish Open and Winmau. This time Scott won beating Ross 5-3 and progressing into  the semi final. Zuiderduin Masters 2011 The Draw for this years Zuiderduin Masters saw Ross drawn with Dutch Pair Christian  Kist and Fabian Roosenbrand. Ross’s First Macth was on the Saturday afternoon and saw Ross beating Christian Kist by 5-3, taking a win into the evening match against Roosenbrand. Ross then progressed into the Last 8 with a 5-2 Win over Roosenbrand, setting up a quarter final clash with Dean Winstanley. Always a close game between the pair over the best of 5 Sets. As usual it  went to the Last leg of the 5th Set and Ross Winning 3-2. Ross the went onto play an impressive Darryl Fitton, returning to some superb form. Darryl won the  Semi by 3-1 and progressed into this years final v Scott Waites.
